“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NIV)
I am an avid driver, jumping in Blue (my truck) and journeying somewhere is no issue for me. As a result of driving so much I’ve invested in an Ezpass, the ezpass allows me the ability to utilize a particular lane that grants me faster access through the toll booth. The value is ezpass is that you don’t stop to pay an attendant rather you just ezpass (if this was a sermon, I’d insert a shout right there lol). Interestingly enough I learned recently by misplacing the ezpass transponder that stays in my window, that even when the transponder is not there because my license plate is registered to the ezpass account I can still use the ezpass lane.
Our verses for today reminds of the diversity of gifts, services, works, or lanes that exist. This diversity means that individuals have different spaces in which they have been called to. The issue comes when people have a desire to be like the next or others feel like people should be doing what they do. If preaching in jeans works for one and preaching in a robe works for another, then ultimately, it’s learning what works for your context. There is no one size fits all approach to ministry or life, operate in your gift. I may never stand on a corner to witness but whenever I have moments to encounter people in the market, Walmart, or even a restaurant I share as the Lord provides. My greatest witness is not based upon what comes from my mouth but rather what my life exhibits. In the words of the Williams Brothers “I am a living testimony”. We have to be so careful attempting to pull people into lanes they have not been authorized to utilize. If everyone does the same thing then we miss out on reaching many lives for the kingdom. Work in your lane to the best of your ability.
The best version of you is the you you’re supposed to be doing what you’re supposed to be doing!
