Seek

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:14 (NIV)

Beginning January 20th I joined in with numerous believers who follow the ministry of Alfred Street Baptist Church in their SEEK 2025. This journey of denying your flesh of either food, financial spending, or social media for 40 days and replacing those urges with a time of seeking God. I thought about the meaning behind the word seek, which means attempt or desire to obtain or achieve; ask for (something) from someone. All of us at some point in life have moments when we are seeking after something. I must raise the question, what are you seeking after? Are you seeking peace? Are you seeking direction in life? Are you seeking a spouse or partner? Are you seeking discipline? Let me encourage you it’s not solely about what you’re seeking but also how you seek.

In the verse for today Jeremiah shares with the exiles that the Lord promises to fulfil the promises made to this people. Not only will the Lord fulfil the promises but also reminds them “I know the plans I have for you”. The other thing Jeremiah reminds them is that you will seek the Lord, but your seeking must be done with all your whole heart. The reason why how you seek matters is because it shows the true desire. When a child really wants something, they will go to great extent to obtain it even if it includes sacrificing to achieve it. God looks at the heart behind our seeking, how much of your heart is in your seeking? How much desire have you placed in your seeking after God. The scripture is clear, “you will seek me” but how will you seek it? After you’ve identified what you’re seeking, the next step is how will you seek?
